SPIT

 I had a funny and enjoyable way to spend part of afternoon courtesy of SPIT. Yes you read it right, SPIT  is not what you do when throwing things out of your mouth,  SPIT stands for Silly People Improv Theater. SPIT is a halfway between theater performance and stand-up comedy. So what’s the difference from the two? Well from the theater its more real time and as for the word improve. They improvise the skits, the dialogue, its all on the spot.  How about from stand up comedy? This is more of less slapstick and you can really enjoy the humor with dissing someone. Did I caught your attention already?  Good because this a whole new world in terms of humor.

SPIT has been around for years now They are celebrating their 11^th anniversary this June and has been around the world. Working with the different nationalities. SPIT’s founder  Mr. Gabe Mercado (for those who are not familiar it’s the “ok ka ba tyan?” actor) has founded the group way back in 2002 , with the need to look for a new kind of humor with spontaneity, and on the spot inspiration to bring humor to the audience.  Now just because you’re an audience doesn’t mean you participate, and that’s the beauty of this humor.  The viewers get to participate in the show and enjoy the antics of the actor. This is a feel good humor that would not drag everybody else down.

So how come, we the common masses are so ignorant of this type of humor? Well for starters, they are a small group and ofcourse they are normally performing on bars on days when we would be at work (for call centers) or just prefer at home after a long tiring day. ( get the gist?) But this group has already performed in the Los Angeles Comedy Festival  and most recently in China. Take that for a small group! Last year they celebrated their decade anniversary in a bar in Makati and the performance was sold out success.

 The actors are not theatrically trained and all of them have day jobs  that’s relatively not related to acting or to theater.  The funny part is that they just hang out together spit out funny ideas work on humor and boom!! SPIT was born. As an of the actors quite”  We do this to keep us sane from the daily life”

This year they will be celebrating the occasion with PETA to reach out to a bigger audience and to share their talents to enthusiast and people who just want to try something new and just laugh the day away.

They will be performing at PETA Theater Center from June 26 all the way to  30^th. So if you don’t have something to do and interested for some clean and feel good humor. Try this one out.
